1986 Hit Song "Higher Love" Is A "Modern Hymn" (so to speak)

Steve Winwood released “Higher Love” in 1986, for which he was afforded his first #1 hit. It was played often on secular stations. According to THIS ARTICLE, Will Jennings, the writer of the lyrics said:

“My earliest memories are of the music in church and of my aunts and uncles singing the beautiful old hymns. ‘Higher Love’ is a generation past that, when things were not so much taken for granted, so that one has to plea, ‘Bring me a higher love,’ and the lines are all trying to explain why there must be higher love. A modern hymn, you might call it.”

Here's the official music video on YouTube. Open the video in a new tab and turn on the Closed Caption to read the lyrics:

Here's Steve Winwood's daughter Lilly covering the song in a slower version. It's accompanied by Steve.

My Life Is In Your Hand

I used to go to a church where they would play this song in the days surrounding (before and after) New Year's Day to help prepare for and consecrate the coming new year. I never heard the original or at least a commercial version of the song before until now. The version below sound different than how they were sung at church. But since 2023 is approaching, I've decided to post them on this blog.

BONUS:

Here's another song they would sing around the beginning of the new year. The first version below is a live version of "I Offer My Life." I don't have time to find my favorite version on YouTube. But this one is good too. The second one below is allegedly a  Hillsongs' version.

He is Lovely - Bob Fitts

I recently had a dream where this played. Since I haven't heard the song in years, I decided to look it up on YouTube. Here it is.
